A brief look into this bright and modern studio as designed, renovated and styled by CPA

The client came to us with a small space consisting of 2 small rooms each with a full height double glazed door which led to a joint balcony and a bathroom. The client advised she wanted to use this space as a tourist rental as it was situated near the beach and she believed the view and light space would make for a successful tourist investment. With that in mind, we decided to reconfigure the space by removing the wall between the 2 rooms to allow more light in from both doors and provide more space in the room to move and furnish the room. This allow us to be able to add a small walk in wardrobe for storage and a partially equipped kitchen.

For the space to modern and stylish, we focused on a few key design points:

  • A neutral palette to showcase the quality of the light and space in the room.
  • Timber panelling on the main wall to create a more interesting space instead of just a white wall. The artwork was also sourced locally to showcase Croatian artwork.
  • Black hardware for a modern finish to the hardware.
  • A splash of green throughout (splashback, towels, plants, bedding) to compliment the neutral palette of the room.
  • The use of small wall tiles in the bathroom to create a modern and stylish space and the walk in shower to attribute to these design requirements.

Functionality is always a priority when designing an apartment. If the functionality of the apartment is set up from the get go, there won't be a requirement to revisit the renovation in a years time. We were required to utilize the space we had for the studio, providing maximum functionality within a minimal design apartment. This included:

  • The washing machine in the bathroom neatly tucked underneath the basin. This allows the option for longer tourist stays as they aren't required to venture out to clean there clothing
  • Built in wardrobe to provide ample storage
  • Storage cupboard outside the apartment in the hallway, to allow for less clutter inside the apartment
  • Equip kitchen over a kitchenette, again to allow for longer tourist stays as there is an oppurtunity to cook at home instead of always eating out
